the cazes family in the languedoc

This magnificent region, full of hidden treasures is the source of excellent terroirs. Located between the mediaeval city of Carcassonne and the old Roman port of Narbonne, La Livinière is a small village at the foot of La Montagne Noire.
The property consists of 50 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of olive trees. In the language of "Oc", "ostal" means both house and the family group who live in it

We make two wines at L’Ostal Cazes: L’Ostal Cazes and L'Ostal Cazes-Estibals, ask your local wine merchant for availability... We also produce extra virgin olive oil at the estate available at Dean & Deluca's top quality gourmet stores in New-York and online...

Of course, in the family tradition, the property is open for visits...
Touring the vineyard and olive grove:
Throughout the Summer, Fabrice Darmailhac - Estate Director - and Lise Giacomini - Cellardoor Manager - welcome visitors. There are different options for visiting the property:

  • Visits are organised on the site of the Saint Joseph19th century tile works, which today houses the L'Ostal Cazes cellars. This visit explains how the tile works operated. The tour finishes in the heart of huge oven which was also used to fire tiles and pipes.
  • Visit the Discovery Trail: the Petit Causse terroir with its wines, garrigue and olive trees.
The 3km circuit is aimed at adults and children and takes approximately one and a half hours to complete, crossing the 25 hectares olive grove.

Eric Laurrent receives his prize for his outstanding novel "Renaissance Italienne".
Village de Bages springs back to life with its annual Summer fête
and the Café Lavinal Literary Prize!

On the 7th and 8th of June, our village celebrated its second annual fete and tribute to
Saint Anthony
. Saint Anthony's origins and life are a paragon for those men and women who have left their native land to enrich our continent.

During the whole week-end, the village celebrated revival to the swing of accordion music, dances and fun from the local businesses.

The second edition of the Café Lavinal Literary Prize" was held at the village on June 12th.
The Café Lavinal partnered with Mollat, the famous Bordeaux bookshop, France 3 Aquitaine regional TV Channel, Sud-Ouest newspaper and France Bleu Gironde radio who largely promoted the prize.

This year's winner - Eric Laurrent with "Renaissance Italienne" - was presented the title of "Commandeur d'Honneur by the Commanderie du Bontemps du Médoc et des Graves".
